Coriander – A Magic Spice

Coriander which is commonly known as Dania is grown is Rajasthan, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh , Tamil Nadu. Coriander is a very important spice crop which has a prime position as a flavoring agent in food. The entire plant has a very pleasant smell.

Common Names

In the common languages in India i.e., in Hindi it is called Dhania, in Bengali it is called Dhana, in Gujarati it is called Kothmiri, in Kannada it is called Kothambri etc.

Leaves:

The leaves are known in a lot of ways as fresh coriander, Chinese parsley etc is a very important spice used in cooking which gives delicious taste to the dish both in vegetarian and non vegetarian.

Fruits: The dehydrated fruits are called coriander seeds or dhania. It is illustrated as warm, spicy, nutty and orange flavored spice.

Uses:

Cooking : coriander is used not only for preparing sausages,flavouring meat, fish and vegetables but also it is used in candies, cookies etc. Grounded coriander is an important constituent for curry powder and garam masala.

Medicine: Ancient Greeks used coriander for weight loss. Coriander is an ayurvedic medicine and is used as a digestive support in Chinese medicines. Coriander has many properties to aid in healing. The cooling effects of the coriander make it a brilliant remedy for urinary disorders. Taken it as a warm decoction it helps to determine urinary tract infections quickly.
